The Gospel of Leviticus: Worship On God’s Terms

In Leviticus 10, we see the seriousness of approaching God in worship and the importance of worshiping Him on His terms rather than our own. Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, disregarding His commands, and were consumed by His holy fire. Their actions remind us that worship is not about personal preferences, emotional experiences, or seeking the approval of others. True worship is centered on God, guided by His Word, and offered with reverence and awe. We must be careful not to replace biblical truth with man-made traditions, self-centered worship, or a distorted gospel. God alone defines acceptable worship, and everything we do should ultimately bring glory to Him.

While God's holiness demands reverence, the gospel reminds us that we can confidently approach Him because of Jesus Christ. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, who were imperfect and prone to sin, Jesus is our perfect High Priest and the ultimate sacrifice who makes a relationship with God possible. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone, not by our own works or obedience. However, genuine salvation produces a transformed life marked by obedience, repentance, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. True worship extends beyond songs and Sunday gatherings; it is a life surrendered to God, lived in obedience to His Word, and devoted to His glory. Through Jesus, we can draw near to our holy God with both confidence and reverence, knowing that our acceptance rests not in what we have accomplished but in what Christ has accomplished for us.
