The Gospel of Exodus: Loving Contentment

Nov 30, 2025    Kody Alvarez

Today we are concluding our study in the Ten Commandments. I hope it has been a blessing, and you have wrestled with the ethical implications of the law in your everyday life.

The Ten Commandments are the summation of all the laws.  God has given us the law so that we can know how God desires His people to live. At Mount Sinai, God gave Israel His law, but only after they entered into a covenant relationship with Him. God's grace precedes the law. The law shows us how to live, but it doesn't grant us access to God.

The heart of the law is to love God and love your neighbor as yourself. We have seen that the first four commands were specific to loving God, and the last six are about loving our neighbors as a result of loving God. We love God and our neighbor by honoring our parents, by loving life, by loving our spouse, by respecting their property, and by only speaking what is true, and we love God and our neighbor by being content with the gifts that God has given us.
