DEVOTIONAL: Exodus 2:1-10, Trusting God With What We Treasure

THE GOSPEL OF EXODUS

Exodus 2:1-10

Trusting God with What We Treasure

Below you will find a 4-day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide based on this week’s sermon’s themes.

You will also find a Dinner Table Discussion Guide to keep the conversation going in your family.

Day 1: Trusting God's Sovereign Plan

Reading: Exodus 2:1-10, Romans 8:28-30

Devotional:

As we read about Moses' early life, we see God's sovereign hand at work through seemingly impossible circumstances. Just as Moses' mother had to trust God with her son's life, we too are called to trust God with our deepest concerns and most precious gifts. Reflect on areas in your life where you struggle to let go and trust God fully. Remember that God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him, even when we can't see the bigger picture. How might your perspective change if you truly believed God was in control of every detail? Today, ask God what you need to surrender and give it over to Him.

Day 2: Courage in the Face of Fear

Reading: Hebrews 11:23-27, 2 Timothy 1:7

Devotional:

Moses' parents demonstrated remarkable courage by defying Pharaoh's decree, choosing to fear God rather than earthly authorities. Their faith-filled actions preserved Moses' life and set in motion God's plan for Israel's deliverance. Consider the fears that hold you back from fully following God's leading in your life. Remember that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-contorl. What bold step of faith might God be calling you to take today? Pray for the courage to step out in obedience.

Day 3: God's Compassion Through Unexpected Sources

Reading: Luke 10:25-37, Matthew 25:31-46

Devotional:

The story of Pharaoh's daughter shows how God can use anyone – even those outside the faith – to accomplish His purposes and show compassion. Her act of mercy saved Moses and altered the course of history. As followers of Christ, we're called to be conduits of God's compassion in a hurting world. Reflect on times when you've received kindness from unexpected sources. How might God be calling you to show His love to someone today, especially someone you might not typically engage with? Look for opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Day 4: The Value of Every Life

Reading: Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5

Devotional:

The efforts to save Moses' life highlight the intrinsic value God places on every human being. From the womb, God knew Moses and had a plan for his life. The same is true for each of us and for every person we encounter. In a world that often devalues life, how can you affirm the worth of those around you? Consider especially those who society might overlook or marginalize. Pray for eyes to see others as God sees them. Remember that every person you meet is created in God's image and deeply loved by Him.

Dinner Table Discussion Questions

Read: Exodus 2:1-10

1.  (ICE-BREAKERShare a time you did or (almost did) something you knew you shouldn’t (maybe a silly rule you considered breaking, a questionable fashion choice, or a food you were tempted to eat after its expiration date). What was the outcome of your bad choice? Or if you didn't go through with it, what stopped you?

2.  How did fear motivate different characters in Exodus chapter 1 and the beginning of chapter 2? What kind of fear should drive our actions as believers?

3.  Trusting God with the results means being brave enough to let go of what we treasure most. Can you think of a time in your life when you had to do this? What was the outcome?

4.  What qualities did Miriam display when she approached Pharaoh's daughter? Why was her action brave? Have you ever been in a situation where you had an opportunity to speak up or act, even if it felt risky? What motivated you? What was the result?

5.  Romans 8:28 assures us that God works all things together for good for those who love Him. How does Jochebed's story, even with the eventual separation from Moses, reflect this truth? Have you ever experienced God work things out for you in a way you could have never imagined?

6.  Showing compassion often comes at a cost. What are some ways in which showing compassion might cost us time, resources, or even social standing?
