DEVOTIONAL: James 5:7-11, While We Wait

FAITH THAT WORKS

James 5:7-11

While We Wait

Below you will find a 4-day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide based on this week’s sermon’s themes.

You will also find a Dinner Table Discussion Guide to keep the conversation going in your family.

Day 1: Patience in God's Waiting Room

Reading: James 5:7-11

Devotional:

In our fast-paced world, waiting can feel like punishment. Yet, God often uses seasons of waiting to refine and strengthen our faith. Just as a farmer patiently waits for crops to grow, we too must learn to wait on God's perfect timing. Today, reflect on areas in your life where you're waiting on God. How might He be using this time to shape your character? Practice being "quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger" (James 1:19) as you wait. Remember, God is never late – He's always right on time.

Day 2: Finding Purpose in Suffering

Reading: Romans 8:28-39

Devotional:

Suffering is an inevitable part of life, but as believers, we have hope that our pain is not in vain. God promises to work all things together for the good of those who love Him. This doesn't mean all things are good, but that God can use even our darkest moments for His glory and our growth. Think about a difficult situation you're facing. How might God be using this to draw you closer to Him or to prepare you for future ministry? Remember Job's steadfast faith and declare, "Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him" (Job 13:15).

Day 3: The Danger of Grumbling

Reading: Numbers 11:1-15; Philippians 2:14-16

Devotional:

Complaining can be contagious, spreading negativity and inviting God's judgment. The Israelites' grumbling in the wilderness led to severe consequences. Paul urges us to "do everything without grumbling or arguing" so we may shine as lights in the world. Today, pay attention to your words and thoughts. Are you prone to complaining? Practice gratitude instead, intentionally thanking God for three blessings in your life. How might a shift from grumbling to gratitude change your perspective and influence those around you?

Day 4: God's Compassion in Our Suffering

Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7; Lamentations 3:22-26

Devotional:

In our darkest moments, it's easy to question God's love and compassion. Yet, Scripture assures us that God is "the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort." He doesn't just observe our suffering from afar – He enters into it with us, comforting us so that we can comfort others. Reflect on a time when you experienced God's comfort in suffering. How can you use that experience to encourage someone else who's hurting? Remember, God's mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness!
